FAQ

What should I wear to class? Should I bring anything with me?
Wear snug fitting clothes to class. Yoga pants, leggings, t-shirts, and tank tops are all suitable. Loose clothing will get tangled in the equipment, and you will be upside down! We highly recommend bringing a sealable water bottle to class, and perhaps a small hand-towel or bandanna.

What should I expect in class?
FUN! But seriously: Each class will begin with a warm up and with stretching and each class will end with stretching. During class, students will learn the foundations of aerial dance by progressing and learning and practicing new skills and tricks each week. In the aerial basics class, students will learn on hoop, trapeze, and silks. As students get stronger and move into the intermediate classes, they can choose to focus on one piece of equipment. Private lessons are able to choose and work with the instructor to meet their specific goals.

What is the difference between the Aerial Basics class and the Aerial Conditioning class?
The Aerial Basics class will focus completely on learning the foundations of aerial dance on hoop, trapeze and silks. Students will learn and practice new moves, tricks, and techniques from week to week. Aside from the aerial work itself, there will not be specific exercises for conditioning the body for aerial work.

The Aerial Conditioning class will use the aerial equipment for core and upper body strengthening without focusing solely on aerial dance skills. The conditioning class will incorporate cardio, combinations of yoga and pilates, and balance exercises. Each week will build on the next, and each week will be different so that your entire body is conditioned and toned by lifting and moving your own body weight.

How much time will I actually get on the aerial equipment if I sign up for group classes?
Miraas Aerial specifically limits registration for its basic and intermediate aerial classes so that each student will have continuous access to equipment during class time. However, aerial work is hard on the body and hard on the hands, especially if you are new, so your instructor will incorporate stretching and conditioning exercises that you can do when you need to rest your hands.

Will I be sore?
Yes, you will be sore, especially when you first start your new adventure—it’s totally normal and to be expected. You are going to use muscles that you probably haven't used in a long time; you may even use some muscles that you have never used at all! Each class will begin with a warm up and with stretching and each class will end with stretching to keep soreness to a minimum. Please communicate with your instructor about how your body is feeling. To help the soreness, we suggest you do some light exercise and/or stretching the following day. Yes, it is going to hurt, but it will help loosen things up and quicken the recovery process. Other than that, don't give up! Your body will better adapt to the classes as time goes on.

Do you teach children or teens?
We do not—we specifically designed Miraas Aerial classes for the casual, recreational, or semi-professional adult student. There are several studios we are glad to recommend, who specialize in teaching aerial to kids and teens, in the area.

What if I have to miss a class or can’t make all the classes in my session?
We understand, especially with adult students, that life happens! You can’t always predict when you’ll have company or a business trip, a family emergency, transportation issue, or you get stuck late at work or school. For that reason we allow 1 makeup per 4-class package, and 2 makeup classes in our 8- and 12-class packages. Full details are on our Schedule page and as long as we receive notice of your absence by our deadline, we will do everything we can to schedule you for a makeup class. It will be additionally helpful if you can let us know 1 or 2 dates and times that you would like to schedule as your makeup class, when you notify us of your missed class—it will help expedite the rescheduling and get you back in the air in no time!
