About Miraas

Miraas Aerial Dance first got its feet off the ground with the passion and vision of Renu Kansal of Bollywood West, and it has continuously grown since it opened its doors in September 2009.

Miraas Aerial Dance studio wants to share the joy, beauty and strength that can be gained from practicing aerial arts. Our philosophy is that anyone with the curiosity and desire can enjoy the benefits of aerial arts. You do not need to be a gymnast, professional dancer, or contortionist to develop skill on trapeze, lyra, and silks. We keep classes small to help each student progress at sustainable level and to help each student achieve his or her maximum potential. We also have a tested methodology that incorporates continuous use of all three pieces of equipment so that students can become fluid in each apparatus and understand how their body works differently to perform similar skills on different pieces of equipment.

What does Miraas mean? Miraas is an Urdu word, meaning inheritance. It is said, “A Mirasi will die of hunger before they sell their art to entertain people who cannot understand and appreciate it…” The Mirasi of north and northwest India (and some areas now known as Pakistan) are nomadic performing artists whose traditions are passed down from generation to generation, each serving the same art forms. Approaching the 14th century, many Mirasi migrated westward from India, through Persia, and to the shores of the Mediterranean, where they merged with other ethnic groups and moved into Europe, where they have become known as Romany or “gypsy”. After the fall of the Roman empire, the traditions of circus arts were sustained by the Romany, until the mid-to-late 1700s when the modern circus was revitalized in Europe.

Miraas Aerial Dance classes and private lessons are held at APEX Movement; Colorado's first and largest Parkour, Freerunning, and CrossFit gym.
